Addison: The Soccer Star

Okay so this is going to be a total Addison praise post, and some people think that it's bragging, but I call it taking an interest in my child! It's not my fault she's so awesome! I was really looking forward to soccer ending. I think it ends Monday but the coach said two weeks. Who knows...Anyway, Addison is the youngest in her class, even though she looks to be the same age as the rest, and is taller than a lot of them. She is also the only girl that has stuck it out. I guess I should say that I am the only parent of a daughter in the class that has stuck it out! At first, she was definitely a 'baby'. I was often embaressed because I knew these parents thought she was the same age as their children, when she was really only 18 months when she started.

Well, the turnaround point has finally happened. The other day when they were doing their stretches, she did them perfectly! While the other boys (23 months and older) were laying on the ground or wanting to be held, she 'touched the sky', 'touched her toes', 'hugged herself', 'hugged the world', and so on. One of the dads that was at practice for the first time kept raving about how perfect she was, and the whole time everyone was using the whole, "look at Addison" stint to try to persuade their kids to do the stretches (to no avail). I was talking to the coach and one of the moms overheard me say Addison's age and couldn't believe that she was only 20 months. She thought that she was closer to 2 like the rest of them. Eventually her height will slow down, or maybe the other kids will finally grow. I know it definitely won't last!

But, I am proud to say that Addison truly was the soccer star that day, and I think her 'changes' (saying more words, giving high 5's instead of being too shy, and helping pick up the cones...actually she has done that since Day 1), really showed me just how much kids can change overnight!
