We are on Day #3 of Addison being off of the bottle. When I took her for her checkup on Monday, I was planning on asking her pediatrician about ways to give her less bottles (hoping, she would tell me the easiest way)! When she saw that Addison was drinking 3+ bottles a day (they are supposed to drink no more than 16 ozs.) she said we had to go cold-turkey! Addison is definitely not one of those kids that you see in the grocery store holding a bottle, or carrying one around while we are shopping...she only uses them to fall asleep. This meant that taking away the bottle was not only getting rid of something she's had for 20 months of her life, but completely disrupting her sleep.
When we got home on Monday she was really tired from being up since 6:30 a.m., so she fell asleep on her own. I was going to wait until next week when Carlos is off of school, but since she'd already gone to sleep once without a bottle, I knew I had to start that night. It wasn't as bad as I thought. She woke up twice, but it was mostly because she was hungry. Another thing with Addison is she wouldn't eat a lot because she knew she'd get her nutrition from her bottles. Ugh.
As of today, she seems to be eating more, and although she wakes up and asks for a bottle, she generally goes back to sleep. Because she is still getting used to eating like a normal person, and not getting full from her bottles, she seems to wake up for a snack and drink of water. She also wakes up every morning at 5 to watch cartoons, and then falls back asleep until 8:30.
I literally have one bottle hiding in the cupboard (just in case), although at this point, there is NO turning back. I threw away all of the bottles, the bottle brush, and bottle drying rack. I loved the rack, but there is no sense saving something for a few years that can be replaced for under $20.
Hopefully, each day gets better and better!
