When we found out we were having another girl, I freaked out. Why? Because it is so hard to name a girl. You don't want them to have a name that is too cutesy, or sounds like a stripper, which really takes out a lot of names. I always think that they need a name that would be suitable for a doctor, or a lawyer. If it fits those two professions, it is pretty much a suitable name. Lol!
We had narrowed it down to three names. All started with "M", and all were 7 letters. We didn't care if it started with an "M", but it worked out that those were the names that we liked. The only letter that I opposed was "R", because I don't like the way it sounds when the first and last name start with the same letter. The three names that we had chosen were Miranda, Marlowe, and Mallory. Mallory didn't work, because my friend Nikki would have HATED the baby. When it came down to looking at the meanings of the names, which I usually don't care about, Mallory meant "bad omen" or "bad luck". That obviously would not work. And then after finding out the meaning, I had to imagine that any parent who named their child Mallory, clearly did not look up the meaning.
We really liked Marlowe. It was different, and the funny thing is that it was one of the names that my grandpa had suggested when he and my grandma were suggesting names. We liked the name, but the more I thought about it, the more I decided that it just wasn't the right fit.
Miranda worked for us. It is a Latin name which means "Admirable". We also felt that it worked well with Addison, which is a really big deal. Nothing is worse than having children's names so completely opposite from one another. We were so happy to have finally made a decision!
And then came the middle name. What a nightmare. I had wanted Anne, because it was 4 letters and one syllable. I am weird and I thought it would be cool since her name and Addison's name would have the same number of letters and syllables. My mom pointed out that Anne was already in the name MirANda. That ruined that idea. I had a ton of names picked out, but we narrowed it down to Claire (meaning pure) and Camille (meaning perfect). They coincidentally are both French names that begin with a "C". Claire was my first choice for a girls name the second I found out I was pregnant. We would write it on Addison's markerboard, try it out with middle names, etc. Finally it got to a point where I was over it for a first name. I happened to hear the name Camille while we were watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and decided that it was a cool name. Of course I had heard it before (RHOBH-Camille Grammer...duh), but it really grew on me. It's one of those names like Penelope (Kourtney Kardashians new baby) where it is so dorky and old fashioned that it's actually cool. Even now, I think Carlos would have preferred Camille, and Addison flat out told me in the hospital that she likes Camille and not Claire, but when it came down to it, Camille was just a bit too much.
The way I compared it was like this: Addison Kate and Miranda Claire are like strawberry ice cream. Miranda Camille is like rich chocolate fudge ice cream. It's just too much.
So, there you have it!
